The Long and Short of It

When I started this multimedia degree, I never had much interest in pursuing radio or podcasting as a career, but the more I do it the more comfortable I feel, the better I get, and the more I enjoy it.

This semester I'm taking a 100 level class - Digital Tools for New Media. For some reason it wasn't available when I started at AAU.

Anyways, the course briefly goes over just about any type of media you can think of and how to best use it on the web. We even did some HTML and CSS coding and are building a 4-page website for our final. This week we had to do a podcast for class, which I rolled my eyes at a little. I've already done three semesters of podcasting or radio work and on a regular basis produce 1-hour long shows, so a two-minute podcast was nothing -- except that we had to use Garage Band to make it. It's a program I played around with years ago on a horribly under-powered Mac Mini, when I thought I'd start recording my own music. I haven't used it since. While there was a bit of a learning curve, there were some things I really liked about Garage Band -- and others that had me wanting to go back to Audition. Bottom line is, it was a good experience and it turned out great. I think I might use it more in the future.

Before I go off on a tangent about the benefits of each, I'm going to correct course and get back to the whole reason that I'm writing this in the first place.

I like radio and I like podcasting. That's the industry that I want to make a career in.
